Air Transat leg room

A warning mostly for those in Eastern Canada. TS is getting a couple A320 for the winter season(in exchange for a couple A330 to Star Airlines.) I believe they will be used mostly from Toronto. These A320 are equipped with 180 seats! Tango had 156 is you want to compare. I guess that means about 4" less leg room!

My wife and son have flown to Florida a few times on Air Transat and have warned me about the leg room. My lady wife is only five-foot-two and she said she was cramped. She told me: "You simply wouldn't be able to sit down on one of their planes." (I'm six-foot-two.)

Actually it might not be that bad. Apparently the allowed for more legroom where the fuel would normally go.

Skyservice has always had 180 pax on their 320's. I also believe that C3000 was the same.

Can't even imagine the pain of my knees up against the seat in front me for a couple of hours.

Airbus's site claims 32" for 164 Y configuration (27 1/3 rows) 180 would make it 30 so pitch would be arond 30" or slightly less.

CMM initially had 174 seats and then after a few years went down to 168.

I've found AT's legroom to be absolutely horrid. Their L-1011 planes are even worse, with a 3-5-3 config in Y (I think).

And yes, you WILL eat your knees on one of their flights, especially if you're over 6' tall.

BTW, the Air Transat website says that Air Transat operates a fleet of 17 sircraft. Does any body know how may of each fleet type of A310s, A332s and A333s does Air Transat operate?

FWIW, think wrong. The L-1011s (and DC-10s) were originally designed for 8 abreast although most airlines ended up using them 9 abreast. 11 abreast is pushing is a bit far.

However, the 747 was designed for 9 abreast although airlines quickly moved to 10 abreast and I believe JL and NH uses 11 abreast for domestic Japan flights.

How about "think almost right".

According to the AT website, the L1011-150 and L1011-500's are configured for 3-4-3 seating (10 across). It's not 11, but more than the 8 or 9 you suggest.

In any event, it's a tight fit!

You should check if the plane in question had one of its engines swapped.

Just want to bring your attention to the following website www.kneedefender.com, which might be useful not only on Air Transat flights. Could cause some problems during flight though.....
