LHR new lounge for AC--showers and smoking!

Just visited last night the new AC lounge, note I would not call it an MLL as it is a shared one with SAS, and frankly is far more SAS than AC ever was. The design is light and bright, not like the dark and sleek MLLs at all.

Two levels and the second one is worth the haul up the stairs.

NOTE: There are 4 showers whcih are a well kept secret. Also, a smoking room finally for us sinners! BRAVO.

Mostly hardwood floors which are not properly sealed and will liook like **** in no time. While I found the design very Scandanivian (rather like an Ikea store), I do not think it has lasting power and I fear it will not easily withstand the test of time.

Big question, will AC keep its Arrivals Lounge open or direct traffic to this one since there are showers??

I was told the Arrivals Lounge is still open but breakfast has been withdrawn, save coffee and muffins.

On another example of insane management, I had asked a gate agent about the new lounge and was told she was not allowed into see it. Now if a company is product sensitive, why would it not permit its staff to be knowledgeable about its product. Why have all the AC staff not been given a tour of the new lounge??

That's why it is called the London Lounge.

I was in the London Lounge on Friday noon, and it was absolutely packed.

The food is no great shakes although the drinks selection is a bit better. Wines are ok and Singha beer is a big plus.

I like the children's play area and the 'games room' but the whole place has a cold and soulless feel to it. Separate smoking area is pretty smart.

I do agree that it would make sense to open the RCC behind it but I can't see this happening anytime soon.

Any other views?

I was in there on Sunday. The internet was not connected yet, it was very crowded and noisy (lots of echos), and there were no Canadian newspapers anywhere. (But plenty of Brazilian papers ... go figure.) There was nothing Canadian about it at all -- it looked like AC just paid SAS to stick a maple leaf on the door. I expected something different and was quite disappointed, so I left and waited for my flight in the relatively quiet gate lounge.

The showers will be nice, though, for anyone connecting to a T3 flight. Arriving pax cannot use the lounge (security concerns perhaps?) so my guess is the arrivals lounge will remain open.

smoking still allowed in lounge?

Hey,

this is my very first comment on flyertalk. I am glad to have found this site!

Do you guys know if one is still allowed to smoke in the LHR lounge of SAS/AC? They used to have a smoking area. I mean it is 2012 and lots of things have change in the last years.

Ahhhhh and here I thought we had a new lounge in LHR until I noticed the post dates. Time for posters to stop resurrecting old threads
