The Benelux is not served at all by EK, and Brussels would make an excellent addition to the network. I can imagine large growth in that market and once Brussels goes double daily after a short while, Amsterdam would be a natural choice.
About Adelaide, Emirates doesn't even fly there ! I'm quite surprised, considering it seems to have large capacity and looks to be a very modern facility. How this has never been mentioned I don't know. Maybe there's a limit to the number of cities EK can serve (they serve 4 already). Both EY and QR have recieved the cold shoulder treatment from the OZs.
Here is a list of destinations I would like EK to serve:
Adelaide-Monopolized by SQ and other Asian carriers and EK should tap into money just waiting to happen.
Barcelona-
Amsterdam-To eat ito KLM's long-haul market share
Barcelona
Madrid
Brussels-With SN African connections and Gulf connections
Washington-Dulles
Chicago
San Francisco
Medina-I know its a regional city and most ppl will be like wt the hell but I'm thinking of all those pax from Pakistan and India. Surely a seasonal (Hajj season) service could be a hit?
Luxor/Sharm el Sheikh/Hurghada-Ideal holiday markets that should be exploited. Currently served by European charters. Once an A330 opens up, EK could start a few weekly services on low prices with proper marketing and wait for the magic to happen.
Dublin-With Aer Lingus ending its DXB services, then EK should be able to control transiting pax onwards to Asia.
I haven't mentioned any Indian or Indian subcontinent cities because I'm not an expert on them. However, there seems to be an endless supply of cities there and some keep coming up on the message boards (can't remember which) so its safe to assume that 1-2 such cities could start next year.
I don't think Edinburgh will start anytime soon. In my opinion, EK should secure other regoons before expanding into the UK market AGAIN. It would be interesting to see London-Stanstead happening to serve that part of England. A330s all the way, my friend!
Good ole' speculating....
Right, here we go
North America expansion subject to equipment.
10x B77L coming. GRU/IAH double daily needs 4. LAX needs another 2 to go daily. Therefore SFO could perhaps fit in in mid 2009. I suspect LAX will get a second daily overnight from DXB. Otherwise,
MIA will require B77L to fly non-stop. I suspect though that this would do well flying through MAD/BCN for example.
EWR
IAD
SFO
MIA
YVR
YYC
SEA - all those triple sevens!
Latin America
In the 2008 thread, GIG was rumoured to be A340-500 with an extension service to EZE. Caracas was rumoured for oil reasons.
GIG
CCS
Europe
DUB - EI pull out & no ex-DUB longhauls going eastwards.
EDI - major financial city in UK. Much better yields than GLA but less traffic.
STN - excellent expansion oppurtunity that doesn't stretch current resources. Low density B777s
TLS - all those Airbus birds! (& onwards to SVQ...)
MRS
BCN
LIS
GVA - Swiss banks
BRU - underserved. political, business & african connections. single daily frequency in current banks would ty in at BRU end well with Brussels Airlines long haul ops
AMS
TXL/STR - not happening till 2011 at earliest
CPH
ARN
HEL
OSL
PRG - surprising amount of asian tourist traffic etc.
LED
Africa
RAK
ABV
DUR
SSH
Australasia
ADL
DRW - A330 range (just...) small market but lacks connections other than Far East
