I don't understand why anyone would care...the points/awards are already earned and who cares if someone pays someone for it...no skin off the suppliers back and no money is lost that hasn't already been paid/earned.

The company that will have to provide free services/products probably care because the person selling is probably selling because they are not going to use the points/miles thus their willingness to sell. On the flip side, the person buying the points/miles finds them valuable and will most likely use them.
Bottom line, I believe the likelihood of the points/miles being redeemed goes up b/c of the sales transaction where otherwise perhaps the likelihood of them expiring/not being redeemed is higher with the person selling them.
