Please note that Y is not always UNRESTRICTED, as I recently found out. I flew HAM-FRA-HAM, had a G class ticket in the morning and a Y return later in the day. I was told at Frankfurt this ticket was only changeable against a 50EUR fee as I travelled to FRA on a "cheap" G-class ticket in the morning. All in all the fare was over 480€. Ridiculous!
This is "normal" - on any airline ticket, when you combine fare classes, the fare restrictions of the more restrictive class apply to the whole ticket.
If you had a four segment itinerary with three segments in Y and one segment in E, the rules for E would still apply.
