Just checked out the thread that yvrcnx directed you to. My opinion hasn't changed much since my contributions to that thread. Since then, EVA has cut the miles awarded for deluxe/elite. The maximum you can get is now 115% of the standard economy award. You may get less for a discounted ticket.

In conclusion, if you're a bit tall you'll find elite/deluxe much more comfortable. Elite has laptop power - which may also make it worth the extra if you do a long run.

Singapore Airlines has better food in economy than EVA in deluxe/elite and flies LAX/TPE. So I would certainly choose them over EVA for economy.

A word of warning... Availability on EVA's Elite is a pain. Even as gold, I have a hassle to get the date I want when booking less than a couple of weeks in advance or at busy times. I would avoid Elite on BR67/68 if you think you might need to change your dates at short notice.
