The S in Florence is outside of downtown, next to the freeway A 1 and it is modern and has shuttle into town. Also it is in area where you could go to several fine suburban or country restaurants with car or taxi.
Our memory is that it is usually a lot less expensive than downtown.
I would only stay downtown if you do not have a car and wish to walk immediately from your hotel.
