The UA fare is a routing based fare, it specifies a couple dozen allowable routings and specifically states HIP is not applicable as it is a routing based fare ("ROUTING FARES ARE NOT ELIGIBLE FOR HIP CHECKS"). The AC fare is MPM based but also has a HIP exception (rules say "HIP surcharge should be ignored") and in theory should allow transit thru (and thus a free stopover in) HKG. The NH fare doesnt appear to allow routing thru HKG.
Agreed. I can definitely price the UA fare with a stopover in HKG, although I had to force the fare on ITA for some reason:
