Very nice story, SanDiego1K.

Father Hesburgh is a wonderful man and priest and a true living legend at Notre Dame. Well into his 80s with poor vision, he still maintains his office in the library named for him and regularly says Mass in dorms or speaks in various classes, usually on civil rights issues (he served on the civil rights commission that was responsible for the Civil Rights Act of 1964).

Father Hesburgh holds the world record for most honorary degrees earned by one person and is one of the few civilians to every fly in an SR-71 Blackbird spy plane.

More than any other person, he put Notre Dame on the map as an academic institution and his influence is felt all over the campus. Loosing Father Joyce must be a sad experience for him, but it sounds like Father Joyce was really suffering.
