Where x is the number of days of the trip, I use the following formulae:
(short trips, up to 4 days): x+1 days of clothes, just in case
(medium trips - 5-7 days): x days of clothing
(long trips - 8 days or more: usually, 6-7 days, and find a laundry somewhere along the way.
