787-9 and 747 refresh news

..........With just eight seats in comparison to the normal 14 across the rest of the British Airways fleet, the suites have been evolved to make even better use of the space, including new storage areas. The suites themselves feature a new high-spec trim and finish to provide a premium look and feel for the furniture, with a strong British influence.

The seat and in-flight entertainment controls have also been updated, with a new handset, much like a smart phone, integrated into the seat from which customers can control their TV screen. They are also able to watch one item, such as the moving map, on the handset and another, such as a film, on the 23inch screen. The screen is fixed in place, meaning customers can enjoy gate-to-gate entertainment without the need for it to be stowed away.

The new aircraft itself is 20-feet longer than the 787-8, meaning more space for cargo and a slightly larger customer capacity of 216. It benefits from all the state-of-the-art Dreamliner technology, including more comfortable pressurisation and ambient lighting control on board. The 787-9 also has a longer range than its predecessor but improvements to the cabin environment will leave customers feeling more refreshed and reduce the effect of jet-lag.

And the first of 18 redesigned 747s will also begin flying during the winter 2015 schedule. In response to customer demand, the airline is changing the aircraft's configuration and adding an additional 16 Club World seats. The jumbos' cabins are also receiving a face-lift to bring them in-line with the 787 and A380 fleets, and a new Panasonic eX3 next generation in-flight entertainment system.........
