I'm very interested in the two witnesses accounts.... Mike McKay and the sailor woman who saw the plane tracking south near Banda Hace.
Mike McKay's statement sounds very plausible and carefully thought out but I heard it was ruled out due to him being too far East.
There's a very interesting Wiki page on visibilty at sea and the curvature of the earth (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Horizon) that suggests he may have seen the plane due to atmospheric refraction of light.... It was a very clear moonless night and it had just rained clearing the vapour from the air.
I do hope they have considered the possibility that the plane was further NE before it made the first westerly turn as this would mean it is somewhere further north on the final arc.
Fascinating mystery.
Shame they never mentioned anything of the possible witness accounts.
