We don't know that Citi won't follow suit.

Because AA holds something dear to the individual, e.g. miles in an account, it's easier for AA to gather information and conduct an investigation.

It's entirely possible that AA will demand restitution for inventory spoilage and Citi for points/miles value.

That's why it makes sense to consult a lawyer first.
