To be fair, the benefits of Silver are very good so I really don't think a SGL level is needed.
I think this is a good point, GGL and lifetime status are both non-OW benefits so earning points on OW shouldn't qualify. They should be BA loyalty benefits only.
Be careful what you wish for though, the rumoured ability to redeem in premium cabins to GCH and SCH only could come along with it...
