Confirmed... they aren't going to honor it:
We understand your desire to achieve elite status. Unfortunately, as I
had said before, that particular promotion was intended for a limited
audience. In the explanation on Facebook, it states "eligible customers
who received the offer" would receive status. Those who did not receive
the offer directly from us are not eligible for the promotion.
We would be happy to offer you an elite status challenge for a minimal
service charge, which allows you to more quickly achieve the status you
desire. If you are interested, please contact AAdvantage Customer
Service at 800-882-8880 (say 'AAdvantage Account' at the Main Menu) and
ask about attaining your desired elite status within three months, given
your circumstances.
