Based on conversations with the customer service for the flat rate Amex rental coverage award rentals are covered. Rentals are covered if the rental is reserved and paid for via the Amex card. The lack of a flat rate charge does not indicate a lack of coverage. The coverage associated with the personal vehicle applies to rentals also. Yes insurance is a big deal!
The Hertz loyalty program is with both advantages and disadvantages. A standard rental in a standard city in most cases is to the disadvantage of the renter. A non standard rental in a non standard city in most cases is to the advantage of the renter. As an example, a premium rental in a city with few premium vehicles often results in a standard vehicle; but a premium rental in a city with many premium vehicles often results in a premium vehicle. Or in other words, in GSP the $20 rate is ideal but in IAH the Hertz award and the Infinity G37 is ideal! Greenville, SC does not have any premium vehicles...
