(Pre-packaged cards bought from a retail agent -- like a Hudson News kiosk at LGA -- will be exempt from the fee.)
Off topic, but will that "new card fee" be waived for those whose current card is about to expire? Typically, the machine just pops out a new card whose expiration date is now a year later.
But I agree that the OP should explore connecting via EWR, PHL, or even IAD, before choosing a LGA-JFK transfer. This is especially true if the OP will have checked baggage.
Just curious, how is EWR and easier transfer to JFK than LGA?
I would guess that one might suggest IAD, PHL or ORD for mileage run purposes or getting another leg on the trip for elite status.
