I recently booked a first class seat from ORD to HKG on Cathay Pacific for 62,500 AA miles. I once read that to the partner airline (here, CX), this is a revenue ticket, but I am curious as to what AA pays partners on whose planes AA awards are used. I recognize that generaly speaking, the other airline has a number of benefits from being an AA partner but, specifically with respect to this rather affordable award for what would be a very expensive paid ticket, what does AA compensate CX? Does this vary by airline so that the same award redeemed on a less expensive airline costs AA less in compensation? Just curious.
