A number of places around Central Florida (mostly big chains like CVS and 7-11) have been putting in chip-comparable terminals but I've yet to find one that accepts my chip BoA card.
I was at a kava bar in Austin recently with one of those European-style wireless card readers. The waitress /owner got excited when I tried the chip reader even though it still didn't work. She said they got the wireless terminals in preparation for an American rollout of EMV cards and I was the first person to try it. It must not be enabled yet.
