The study only evaluated prices starting 6 months in advance, so it isn't applicable to what you paid 6-8 months in advance. I've booked several flights 6-11 months in advance over the lest 2 years and only found one that decreased, and only about 5%, in the intervening period.
The savings by booking 21 days in advance is <10%, so is it worth possibly saving that for the uncertainly of knowing?
