Lake Compounce Amusement Park in Bristol CT is the nations oldest amusement park. A few decent coasters.

No, just some creative routing. It would be quite easy to drive down to Newport, then pick up 1A across to Mystic and Groton, then swing NW on 85 and 2 to Hartford, then on to Bristol, then down to Danbury and into NYC. Actually, this would be a very scenic tour.
