IME AMS is always a pain for international/long-haul check-in. Took us 45 minutes (at least) to check in and check 2 bags last trip, and we had already printed out boarding passes prior to arrival at the airport. Then there was security into the terminal, and further security including a pat-down and repeat bag x-ray at the gate. Or course, all that was followed by a 3 hour mechanical delay, during which we were not allowed to leave the secure gate area.
