Here's what preview.united.com has to say about PassPlus Secure (
http://pss.united.com/web/en-US/cont...us/secure.aspx):
So this all matches what we've been told:
- Zone fares rather than mileage-based, numbers not 100% spelled out but some examples given
- Coach books into M instead of Y. (Makes sense not to use Y. If, on CO, Y-ups give last-seat availability into F, there would be no point in buying the zone fares for C or F. Too bad they didn't use B.)
- Only "domestic itineraries" are upgradeable, which is interesting because the merged airline has many intl destinations that are eligible for CPU. Maybe no change and just poorly communicated. (I bet you can probably still try to upgrade an M or C fare SFO-FRA, but they'll probably audit you and ask for a fare difference.)
- Prices are kinda tacky, ending in 9s instead of being nice round numbers
A quick comparison of how the example zone fares they give line up against the published mileage-based rates in 2011:
