This is a simple arithmetic problem. You need to assign a value to the points, based on the way
you redeem them. I assign $0.0225 because I redeem for transatlantic business class tickets, which makes the breakeven point $1,408. If you redeem for giftcards at $0.01 each the breakeven point would be $3,167.
