The other option is to book/waitlist two rewards on CO metal and then purchase the elite maximizer for himself. This will be "expensive" even if the price for the EQMs drops after the new year.
I am pretty sure I would have to waitlist my EWR-HKG like what most other PLTs do in FT, but regarding reward F, if you give 125k miles I thought you should have got the confirmed F seats in any flights from the search results in CO right away? If they still couldn't give me the confirmed seats with 125k, I would be pretty pissed.
