Here is some advice!
We used miles to get award tickets from FRA to JNB. UA told us that we will have to pay over $900 (10% of full fare business class) for our infant daughter to travel with us. The award was comnbination of TK, SA and TAP.
I went to the counter of each airlines and purchased a infant ticket (which is 10% of the ticket price), I was able to reduce my cost by talking to each airlines separately by over 25%.
