Oh yes, the Chatterbox restaurant at the Meritus Mandarin hotel (Orchard Road) is well known for their chicken rice; odd but sort of neat that a hotel coffee shop actually has good food.
At ever-increasing prices: the last time I visited, the restaurant has been shifted up to the top of Meritus Mandarin, done up in scarlet red "Beijing Boudoir" style, and the price of the chicken rice hiked up to nearly $30/head after taxes. The original chef has also left and set up a new stall called Mr Chicken Rice at the badly misnamed Downtown East, aka the semi-deserted shopping mall at the foot of the Singapore Flyer -- never been there though, and apparently not all that spectacular.
PS Jpatokal - looked up your list. What happened to those places that you crossed out?
