Cool, Fun, off-the beaten-track Yucatan Cenote - Yokdzonot

Figured I would clue some people in on a really nice time we had at a Yucatan cenote. Located in the Mayan village of Yokdzonot, about 15 km west of Piste (Chiten Itza), about 25 minutes from Valladolid. Located on the federal highway (free road) 180 between Piste and Libre Union. Easily accessible by car or by the Merida-Valladolid bus which passes every 30 minutes. Easy additonal trip if you are going to Chitzen-Itza for the day from Cancun or Playa del Carmen. I didn't see Yodkdzonot on the maps.

It was nicer, cleaner, and way less touristy than the ones located closer to Chitzen Itza, the coast, or the larger cities.

Anyway, some locals got together and made their breath taking cenote with beautiful blue colors, tropical fish, and excellent views into a small park with swimming, rapelling, bike rentals, camping, and picnic benches and a restaurant. The people said they are going to build cabanas for overnight stays soon in addition to camping for the adventorous types.

There were few people. The locals were helpful and inciteful and gave us a tour. We made the drive from Tulum and it was a nce country drive through the jungle up past Coba-Chemax-Valldolid. Took about 2.5 hours each way from Tulum. Wonderful day trip.

There is info on the web we found to give you an idea:
this one has a video for info
