Windows Closed - Safety Issue
It seems that a few years ago, I recall FAs telling other passengers that window shades should be up while on the ground and during taxi as it was a safety issue. Perhaps its an FAA requirement? It makes sense to me that if there is an emergency, you want an immediate clear view of what's occuring outside.
However, many of us have probably been told to lower the shades and keep them drawn while on the ground. I understand the reasoning in that it keeps the aircraft cooler - and the real reason in that it saves the airline money. But, I wonder if the safety compromise is worth it or legal?
