You can buy the Bayern Ticket on the day you travel at the DB ticket machine at Salzburg station or at the DB ticket office for a small supplement.

You can only get the regional (RE or RB) trains (after 09:00) - not the EC nor Railjet. There's roughly an RE or RB train every hour.
