There are 4 parts to the code all in lower case:
1) The year the AC first opened
2) The top rank of a Naval officer
3) How many years the AC has been open
4) The 2 letter IATA code for American.
Nice hint. I was just coming on to post the one I picked up at the DFW club. They had a big stack of cards but all the same code. looks like they do tie it to the account.
