Review: Kansas City Airport (MCI) Howard Johnson

Arrival:
Hotel shuttle stops running after 11 PM. As I arrived at 11:35 I took a cab which cost $17.50 without tip. Upon arrival I entered the very large lobby which is the most opulent part of the hotel. The woman working the overnight was very friendly and efficent and offered smiles.

Trip to room:
The hotel is very old and reminds me of college dorms. Old, threadbare carpet, bad lighting, narrow corridors and institutional wooden doors.

Room:
Comfortable bed, older, though large television. Instead of a desk I had a small table and two chairs, which again looked dorm room quality. The shower had good water pressure (though limited hot water). Toiletries were plentiful. There is no closet or extra pillow.

Food:
There was a lively bar when I arrived though I did not enter it. Breakfast was put out at 4 AM, the earliest I have ever seen at any hotel, and consisted of various danishes, bagels, pastries, yoghurt, fruit and waffle mix.

Departure:
Check out was smooth and the shuttle ran every half hour starting at 5 AM.

Other:
There was a computer with slow internet in the lobby so I got my boarding pass printed.

Overall:
The good outweighed the bad. I'd stay here again if it was cheap. One third of the way to my 10,000 miles!
