Q fares are the lowest discounted fares that can be upgraded. As a SP, you are at the bottom of the upgrade queue anyway, and if other SP are booked on higher-fare tix, they'll be ahead of you even if they check in at the last minute.

Q is not the lowest, V and L are even lower. If your upgrade doesn't clear within your window, make sure you check in early b/c its based upon check-in time within your status.
