U.S. Carriers Improve Due to DOT Shakeup

According to an annual study by researchers from Wichita State University and Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, domestic airlines have shown marked improvement in their scheduling and bag retention in the last year. The study took into account information gathered by the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT), including statistics on baggage handling, flight punctuality, and complaints filed with the United States government.

Addressing the gap between customer experiences and statistics, Dean Headley, a co-author of the report, said, “People don’t look at the numbers […] they just know what happened to them, or they hear what happened to other people.”

reading the link above, nbc says the number of ARRIVALS improved, of course it did when most if not all the airlines pad their schedules to the point they would be hard pressed to be late even with delays which to me are more the norm than not.
