New Zealand Couple Claims $3K Was Stolen During Flight

A New Zealand couple claims that €2,674 (over $3000) was stolen from their baggage while traveling with Emirates from Paris to New Zealand. Steve Hay and his partner Andy received the money as part of a tourist tax refund after their stay in Paris, which they claim the airport paid them in cash “rather than risk something going wrong with the credit card transaction.”

Eric Jordan, Condé Nast Traveler’s ombudsman, doubts the couple’s story. “Hay has no evidence that he had $3,000 in cash in his bag, nor does he have any evidence that it was stolen while he was on the flight […] He is asking the airline to take his word for it and all airlines have very clear language that they are not liable for anything that goes missing from carry-on baggage (unless you can prove the airline was at fault).”
