Liquid Hydrogen Floated as Possible Fuel Replacement

Professor Jo Hermans of Leiden University recently published a paper in the journal MRS Energy and Sustainability proposing that liquid hydrogen could be a viable replacement for the kerosene currently used as jet fuel due to its relative lightness. He admits, however, that kerosene is cheap and convenient, and that liquid hydrogen would be a tough sell as an alternative fuel.

“It is a defect that kerosene is so irrationally cheap, which triggers much unnecessary air travel,” Hermans said. “A worldwide tax on kerosene – if at all politically possible – should be something to pursue.”

"Much unnecessary travel" can easily be eliminated by airlines merging and enhancing their service to hell. :D
