Guess Which Country Is Running Out of Room for Tourists
New Zealand is reportedly running out of hotel beds to house tourists. According to the country’s tourist board, New Zealand predicted 3.1 million arrivals by last year, but documented 3.5 million visitors; a growth of 12 percent year-over-year.
A 2016 study revealed there was a shortage of hotel rooms in regions of Auckland, Rotorua, Christchurch, Wellington, and Queenstown when demand was high.
“We simply don’t have enough hotel rooms in our current inventory to cope with this level of growth in the tourism sector,” said Dean Humphries, national director of hotels at Colliers International, a real estate services organization. Humphries claims that if solutions are not found soon, it’s unlikely the steady level of growth will continue.

In the short term, promote more camping.....
RoomS, not Room. New Zeland as a country has plenty of space for tourists. It's hotel beds, as you point out, that are the problem. Huge difference.
