Four Arrested After LPL-Bound Easyjet Flight Diverts to BRS

Police are asking passengers who may have witnesses or recorded the rowdy behavior aboard a Barcelona to Liverpool bound EasyJet flight to come forward.

Four passengers were arrested on Thursday after their alleged drunken antics caused an EasyJet flight from Barcelona-El Prat Airport (BCN) to Liverpool John Lennon Airport (LPL) to make an unscheduled stop at Bristol Airport (BRS). The captain opted divert to the airport just short of the flight’s final destination because of what was described as a “passenger welfare issue.”

According to The Guardian, one woman and three men were taken into custody after the aircraft landed. The arrested passengers, who ranged in age from 21 to 29 were accused of disrupting the flight – alcohol was believed to be a factor in the incident.

Police are asking eyewitnesses to the in-flight incident step forward. Authorities also issued an appeal for any recordings of the rowdy behavior that is alleged to have taken place during the short journey.

“We’re appealing for anyone who was on easyJet flight EZY7208 from Barcelona to Liverpool, who may have filmed the incident on their mobile phones or any other devices, to get in touch,” a spokesperson for the Avon and Somerset Police told the newspaper.

EasyJet defended the crew’s handling of the situation and said that the airline would push for the prosecution of the passengers whose behavior caused inflight emergency in the first place.

“EasyJet can confirm that flight EZY7208 from Barcelona to Liverpool on 21 September diverted to Bristol to four passengers behaving disruptively,” an airline spokesperson told The Guardian in a statement. “The aircraft was met by the police upon arrival in Bristol and continued to Liverpool once the passengers were arrested. Cabin crew are trained to assess and evaluate all situations and to act quickly and appropriately to ensure that the safety of the flight and other passengers is not compromised at any time.”
