Flight Diverted After Man Allegedly Sexually Assaults Sleeping Teen

An Alaska Airlines flight from Portland, Ore. to Anchorage, Ala. was diverted to Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA) after a California man aboard the aircraft reportedly attempted to kiss a sleeping 16-year-old girl seated next to him. The pilot was notified of the assault and reported it to police before landing. The unidentified man was taken into custody and booked at King County Jail, and the child he allegedly sexually assaulted remained aboard the flight when it resumed its flight to Anchorage. Seattle-Tacoma International Airport spokesperson Perry Cooper has confirmed that the boundary-violating California man was cooperating with authorities at the time of arrest.

I'd be livid if a pilot diverted a flight over a kiss! A kiss for Zeus' sake! It's like the crews are eagle eyeing the cabin for any potential wrong- or weird-doing of the passengers so they can terminate the service.

Of course it was. Security of the flight isn't the only valid reason for diverting.

Sexual assault is clearly reprehensible. But, is it a valid reason for diversion ? Was the security of the flight really at risk ? (I was not there, so I can't say)
