U.K’s Parliament, Public Wonder: What’s Going on With Heathrow?

Heathrow runway expansion remains up in the air.

Information on a decision on the much-anticipated and highly-controversial London Heathrow Airport (LHR) runway expansion remains elusive, the U.K.’s The Guardian reported Sunday.

The newspaper said that Member of Parliament (MP) Andrew Tyrie, Commons Treasury select committee chair, said both parliament and the public are in the dark on whether a new runway will be built.

Tyrie has called on British Conservative Party’s George Osborne, the chancellor of the exchequer, for more details that led an independent commission to recommend the contentious addition to the England’s largest airport.

Tyrie called the commission’s case “opaque in a number of important respects” and that “a good deal more information is required” if the government’s expected decision is to be transparent.

In December, FlyterTalk reported that the decision to add a third runway to LHR met a third delay after planning officials determined additional time would be needed to study environmental impact. The British Ministry of Transport previously promised a decision by 2015’s end.
