Drone Violations Force Photo Company to Pay FAA $200K
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) will be receiving $200,000 from an aerial photography company that reportedly violated airspace with drones. To grab photos for proposed high-rise structures, the Chicago-based company – SkyPan International – used drones for 20 years.
Per the Chicago Tribune, the firm faced a $1.9million fine for using “65 unauthorized drone flights in New York City and Chicago between 2012 and 2014.” The settlement was reached Thursday after a yearlong legal skirmish.
“We’ve suffered enough and I just wanted to get it off our back at this point,” said Mark Segal, founder of SkyPan International.
