CEO Defends Airline’s Pilots in Germanwings Crash

Lufthansa CEO Carsten Sphor defended his airline and its pilots in a recent interview that included questions concerning the crash of Germanwings flight 9525 that occurred in March 2015. “Our pilots are a very important part of our safety network, they are not a threat to safety – they are guaranteeing safety in aviation,” Spohr said.

Investigations showed that the crash, which killed all 150 passengers and crew onboard, was intentinoally initiated by co-pilot Andreas Lubitz, who reportedly had a history of severe depression.
