BREAKING: Tatarstan Airlines 737 Crashes in Kazan, All 50 On Board Killed

Tatarstan Airlines Boeing 737

A Boeing 737 operated by Tatarstan Airlines crashed in Kazan, Russia this morning at 7:20 PM local time. The aircraft had departed Moscow an hour earlier, carrying 44 passengers and 6 flight crew members. All 50 people onboard were killed.

Reports indicate the plane lost altitude during a second landing and crashed, with the fuel tank exploding and engulfing the aircraft in flames.

Earlier in the day, the same plane had experienced problems during the landing. A Russian journalist onboard the Moscow-bound flight reported that the plane shook during landing and passengers were thrown about the cabin as a result. It is unclear whether this incident was due to weather or mechanical issues.

According to the International Air Transport Association (IATA), Russia and the former Soviet republics have one of the worst air traffic safety records in the world, with air traffic accidents on the rise.

The aircraft problems landing at Moscow should have been reported, and the aircraft inspected immediately. This is a problem in Europe for both passenger and cargo aircraft arriving from Russia, and other countries such as Argentina, resulting in EU inspectors suspending many flights due lack of documented, required safety maintenance. There is a valid reason for these regulations and inspections. It could easily have been 350 rather than 50, which is tragic enough.

Not a single comment? If this had happened in the US, we would've been flooded by now. Condolences to all affected families.
