Bald Eagles Recruited to Bring Down Drones

Bald eagles are now being trained by the Dutch National Police Agency to take down drones that have crossed into restricted airspace. The eagles are contracted out to police as part of a program called “Guard from Above” that was developed by Sjoerd Hoogendoorn. The birds are taught to grab consumer drones with their claws.

“During training, they’ve proved to be the best birds of prey to take down drones,” Hoogendoorn said.

The eagles have another month of test flights before they are sent out on official missions.

Assume the birds are also protected from the flights. Hard to train birds of prey, sometimes they just don't listen.
