Alaska Air Bringing Space Bins Onboard

Alaska Airlines will be bringing larger overhead bins called Space Bins to its Boeing Sky Interior 737s. The move will increase space for overhead baggage by up to 50 percent, according to ATW. Each of the new bins reportedly has room for six bags – two more than that of the space that’s currently available.

codyc1515, did you read the linked article with the details? This is only going to be on a few dozen Alaska aircraft, mostly just the long range ones (737-900ER) that have the Sky Interior. That's a TINY FRACTION of their entire fleet. Most Alaska planes don't have Sky Interior and thus won't get these. So unless you're really aware of which exact plane you're flying and whether it has these bins, you won't be able to count on them.

I actually agree with codyc1515. Just think of how quickly we'd be able to turn planes around if people were not allowed to bring rollerboard bags into the cabin. We should be encouraging people to check bags, not charging extra for it.

codyc1515 says "if it doesn’t fit under the seat it should be checked" This is one of the most ridiculous comments I have seen on FT. There is no reason in the world why a 21 inches carry-on should have to fit under the seat, and if not, should have to be checked.

This will make boarding and disembarking quicker... not. This is why checking baggage exists. IMO if it doesn't fit under the seat it should be checked. It also delays evacuation in the event of an emergency because people, although they are not meant to, take things with them.
