Southwest Airlines is known for its value and service. As a result, many of Southwest's in flight features are designed to minimize costs and maximize efficiency.
Southwest Airlines In Flight Drinks
Southwest Airlines is very much a value and commuter airline that specializes in local and short distance flights. Most of the in flight features are based around airline snacks. On Southwest's official website, you are able to view their entire in flight menu. Non-alcoholic beverages are complimentary on all Southwest flights and include:
- Coca-Cola Classic
- Sprite

In addition to non-alcoholic drinks, Southwest offers everything from Jack Daniels to fine wines. If you need a boost, you can order in flight coffee and low carb energy drinks. Alcoholic beverages cost $5 each.
Southwest Airlines In Flight Snacks
Some snacks that are found on board a typical Southwest flight include:
- Peanuts
- Pretzels
- A variety of Nabisco brand selections
Southwest Airlines does not offer any full meals. This is another way Southwest is able to offer cheap flights to major cities.
Free Checked Baggage
Unlike other competing airlines, Southwest allows you to check two bags for free. While other airlines may charge $20 to $30 per bag, Southwest Airlines allows you to bring two bags, under 50 pounds, free of charge.
In Flight Entertainment
Southwest Airlines has recently partnered up with Movielink.com, a sight that allows you to watch movies on your laptop while you're in the air. Southwest doesn't offer in flight internet services, so you must download a movie via movielink before you board your flight. Films range from $1.99 to $4.99, and there is a wide variety for you to choose from. Despite this partnership, most Southwest Airlines flights do not offer in flight monitors or TV screens. This is another way Southwest is able to keep costs down.
Other Southwest Airlines Amenities
Southwest's Spirit Magazine, available on board, has informative articles that discuss locations and destinations around the world, and gives you tips with respect to places to eat and hotspots in your destination. The magazine also has a section devoted to maps of cities and locations that you may potentially visit.
You can ask your flight attendant for a pack of playing cards as another in flight entertainment option.
Seating Arrangements
Southwest Airlines does not offer assigned seating, resulting in seats being organized by groups. If you checked in early, you will be rewarded with a higher group. In addition to these group arrangements, you are also assigned a specific number (such as A5). If you have checked in early and are assigned A5, you will check in before the person who has been assigned A13.
